What this tool does
The Qualification Checker tells you, in plain English, what you actually need to study or train in to work in a specific animal career. Type in the job, whether that is veterinary nurse, dog groomer, zookeeper, wildlife rehabilitator or something else, and you get a clear breakdown of the qualifications expected by UK employers.
For each career it covers the typical entry routes, how long each one takes, rough costs, and where in the UK you can study. If there is more than one way in, you will see the options side by side so you can compare them.
When to use it
It is most useful if you are weighing up a career and want to know what you are signing up for before you commit time or money. School leavers, parents helping their children think ahead, career changers, and people returning to work after a break all tend to find it helpful.
It is also worth a look if you already have some qualifications and want to know whether they count, or if you left school without the grades you wanted and are looking for apprenticeships, Level 2 and 3 courses, or other non university routes. The tool flags alternative paths where they exist, so you are not left assuming a degree is the only option.
How it works
You enter the career you are interested in and answer a couple of short questions about your current situation, such as your age and any qualifications you already hold. The tool then gives you a summary covering the main route, any alternatives, typical study length, approximate costs, and examples of UK colleges, universities or training providers that offer the relevant courses. You can run it as many times as you like for different careers. Nothing you enter is saved or shared, and you do not need to register or give an email address to use it.
